Local School News

A few bits of local school-related news for you.

Jesus and Mary College, Our Lady’s Grove
The secondary school has been successful in the resubmission of an application to the  Sports Capital Programme. The school has been awarded €150,000 for a “new astro floodlit pitch with changing facilities“. Details here: www.dttas.ie/press-releases/2019/funding-announced-170-sports-capital-projects. This is great news for the school. Hopefully once the planning situation has been resolved on the OLG campus, there will be a state-of-the-art hockey pitch located there. As far as we are aware, the provision of flood lighting will also need to go through the planning process.

Our Lady’s Grove Primary School
The primary school is planning to construct a double storey extension on the north side of the school building (the Roebuck Downs side). Some funding for this will be coming from the Department of Education, with the rest coming from fund-raising.

New Primary School in the Goatstown/Stillorgan Area
In April last year the Department of Education announced a new 400 pupil primary school for the Goatstown/Stillorgan area. This school is to be opened in September 2019. (They also announced a new 800 pupil secondary school for the area, to be opened in 2020.)

It looks like a temporary location for this new primary school has been found in the Sandyford Business District. Some details, and opinions, can be found in this Dundrum Gazette article. No word yet on what governing body will be getting patronage for this school.

Last year’s Department of Education press release announcing the new schools can be found here.

Update 07/03/19: The Department of Education has announced that Educate Together will be the patron of the new primary school in the area.
