Sports Day – The Aftermath!

Over 100 kids from Roebuck and the surrounding areas participated in our Sports Day last Sunday afternoon in Rosemount field. There was great competition in the sprint races, novelty races and obstacle courses. A few games of soccer were played, overseen by a local Rosemount soccer legend. The parents’ races were a sight to behold – “healthy” competition is alive and well in Goatstown! We couldn’t have asked for better weather, it was a beautiful day. And to top it all off, we managed to finish in plenty of time for the Dublin fans!

We’d like to say a huge thank you to the group who organised the day, in particular Daithí Ó hAoláin, Aoibhinn Woods and Shane and Suzanne Cotter. We’d also like to thank everyone who volunteered on the day, and to those who helped out in other ways. Thanks also to DLR County Council for facilitating the use of the grounds and toilets, and of course to Lynam’s for the much appreciated jellies and juice, and for being so accommodating in collecting names before the day.

As you know, this was a precursor to starting up a Goatstown branch of the Community Games. At the moment kids from our area cannot enter. If you are interested in being involved in the Community Games for 2018 please contact us at roebuck.residents@gmail.com. So far we do not have an organising committee set up for this, so we would be happy to hear from some willing volunteers.
